Mississippi State University Chapter of the Music Teachers National Association to Perform a Christmas Benefit Concert
The Mississippi State University chapter of the Music Teachers National Association will perform a Christmas Benefit Concert on Saturday, December 10th at 3:00pm. The concert will be in the Department of Music Lecture-Recital Hall (124 Hardy Rd.) and will be followed by a bake sale. The concert will feature a variety of Christmas favorites for solo piano and piano duet. Performers include Kindal Gammill, Desmond Henderson, David Jelinek, Nathan Shelton, Dr. Jenna Klein, and Prof. Rebekah Schultz. The purpose of the MSU MTNA Collegiate Chapter is to help acquaint students with professional opportunities and career options in the music field, and engage in community outreach while developing professional leadership and connection with other young professionals and active music teachers. The MSU MTNA collegiate chapter was has been selected to present a research poster at the annual MTNA National Conference in March 2023, in Reno, Nevada. This is particularly impressive since the research poster was selected by the MTNA National Conference Planning Committee from among all proposals (not just other students). Their research poster is titled “The Pedagogical Piano Works of William Grant Still” and explores piano pieces by the Mississippi native composer. All proceeds from the benefit concert and bake sale will support collegiate chapter members' cost to travel/present at this prestigious national conference. For more information about the performance or to make a donation to the Mississippi State MTNA chapter, please contact Dr. Jenna Klein, Assistant Professor of Piano.
